The Final Product

Success at the Shop!

Progress Feb. 25

This was my progress as of yesterday. I finally put everything together, and all I need to do now is to attach the acrylic balls I got for the to versions of Newton's cradle. I tried using wire and micro filament (or clear elastic string) but I felt that both could be straighter. So, yesterday I purchased some ribbon for the final attachment. I plan to sew loops to put the hooks through, and the weight of the balls should cause the straight lines to happen. Using ribbon I can also ensure that every piece is of equal length. Off to the shop now, wish me luck!

The Pendulum: Music and Sir Isaac Newton

Metronomes have always been an inspiration for my design, but last night I ran into an issue: how can I make sure this pendulum swings toward the notes and not in between the frame walls?
I thought about attaching the pendulum to two points making sure it swings in the right direction, like in the pictures below with Newton's example.

The Pendulum: Sketch

The Pendulum: Thoughts

I've decided to create a pendulum that will show the progression of time in music through sound. My pendulum will swing back and forth after a weighted system controlling scissors has cut its rope, allowing the pendulum weight to swing freely. On either side of the pendulum's path there will be two bell keys, C# and C.
